While clearly a brillant man, Robert has his faults. Living in his head has made him rather slow when coming to physical confrontation, being injured making things only more difficult. Thinking on his feet seeming to not be a strong suit of his, active fighting seems to be a place where he is incompetent. He is also suffering from amnesia forgetting very conveniently anything of any use to their cause. Where Langdon truly shines on the other hand is in those moments where he can out wit his opponent. Given the chance to consider his options he immediately out smarts a world class assassin, and shortly after reaches a conclusion a literal genius cannot come to. Should he treat the remaining portion of his journey like a game of chess, he should be capable of success. With time running out the game is set to be a thrilling battle with the fate of the world in the balance.
Robert Langdon has demonstrated many qualities that make him a strong character. Firstly, he is a scholar specializing in symbology and art history, which is absolutely crucial to solving the mystery that is presented piece by piece. His ability to use rational and decisive thinking allows him to figure out these little clues that still seem to make absolutely no sense. The strange visions and the biohazard tube holding a map of hell relating to Dante. He has not been confused and is still able to discern everthing that has happened even though he lost his memory. He is faced with the task of escaping the SRS team while solving the mystery that might determine the fate of the world. He is determined to figure out the biazzare events that have occured in this short period of time, and being able to process all, in my opinion, is very impressive. I don't believe he has a great weakness, but he does rely on Sienna to help him with the tasks of evading the soldiers and helping him around Florence. He needs to understand the urgency of the situation and probably be more anxious to find the gift created by the shade that will be given to the world the next day.
In my opinion Robert Langdon has many different strengths and weaknesses that define his character. Due to his past profession of being a teacher at Harvard University in Cambridge Ma, I can say that he is a very smart man. He is full of knowledge and knows many things. Robert Langdon is also a fast thinker and always knows what to do with a task he is given. Langdon seems to figure certain things out that other people can not make sense of. Although Robert Langdon is a fast thinker, he seems to shift into panic mode very quick. For example, when he first learns that he is the holder of a cylinder object he begins to stammer, pace back and forth, and say things like “What the hell?!”. Robert Langdon deals with unfamiliar instances with a sense of nervousness, and apprehensiveness. With this, Robert Langdon also has a hard time trusting people he does not know well. I think it would be hard to trust people as well if I did not have a good memory of my past.
As I read along the storyline, I start to know more about Robert Langdon's character. He first strikes me as a person that panics during difficult or serious situations. The reason why I have this impression is that he panics every time at the hospital when the doctors ask him questions. However he also gives me an impression of knowing a lot of knowledge; especially in the field of Dante. When Sienna thinks that the cylinder is a bioluminescent tube. Langdon figures out what it really is just by looking at the light ray pointing out from one end of the cylinder. Despite that he is smart he does not trust people that easily. Even though Sienna has saved his life at the hospital, he still does not trust her. He questions her action when she asks him for his jacked to disguise as a old woman to fool the SRS team. Right now these are the traits of his personality that I am sensing or picking up so far in the book.
I think that in the begging of the book it was hard to understand Robert, but now almost twenty chapters later Robert has showed me a little about himself. Robert kept having visions of a woman and that kept saying “seek and ye shall find”. Not only did he have those but the visions were very gruesome. He is having a hard time finding himself after he was shot in the head. I think his weakness would have to be not being able to have control over the decisions he makes. His doctor Seinna Brooks is helping him along the way and she is the one calling the shots. Even though Robert is not in the best mental health it is still a weakness. A strength I think Robert has is being able to cope with being shot in the head and not over reacting too much. He is showing strength in his visions and memory since the incident happened.
Robert Langdon is a very successful scholar, he teaches at Harvard university. He teaches art history and symbology. His character in the book is quite unanimous. There is a woman in his life, a very special woman. Langdon has these visions of her saying seek and you shall find. Langdon doesn’t know who she is or what she wants. I think that is one of his weaknesses that he has, he doesn’t know who he really is. He hasn’t found himself as a man yet. He’s faced with all these problems and he has such a hard time to succeed. After he was nearly shot in the head he lost all of his memory and now is on a goose chase in Florence Italy. Langdon has now got this evil image in his head that wont go away. He can’t figure out why this evil figure keeps following him either. Now he’s left with paranoia because this evil creature/ woman really wants him dead and I feel as if that is one of langdons weaknesses. Hes to worried about hell.
Robert Langdon is constantly on the run, he has no idea what the hell is going on, and he has temporary amnesia; Robert Langdon has yet to show his true colors to the reader. A character like Langdon is not in touch with reality and is learning what happened and who he is, things fall into place and the reader sees Langdon’s reactions and decisions which make him who he is. So far, Langdon has been rescued by Sienna and guided by the gray haired lady for the first few steps of his journey, which shows that he is essential in the plot and will somehow act as an untimely catalyst to stop or kindle the flame to events about to take place. So far, Robert Langdon is cast as the new player in the game, which shows he will either develop or die off; Langdon’s role in this whole affair stinks of something that the reader can’t smell yet, but is creeping closer and closer to the climax where the situation becomes clear and Langdon becomes the protagonist Inferno needs.
